A significant new building providing central workshop teaching accommodation for their construction skills courses.

The college teaches the whole range of construction skills and needed to increase the provision for the growing demand they were experiencing. The aim of the project is to provide high quality workshops and other teaching accommodation, which will provide for their current needs, allow for future growth, and attract more students by having the best facilities in the region.

The building has a functional purpose, with the focus being two large workshops for teaching bricklaying, plastering and plumbing. However, our design team have created a design that is aesthetically pleasing, which hints at the purpose within. It fits contextually with the existing 1960s and 1970s estate, whilst displaying a twenty-first century face to the public and students.

The design creates a clear entrance and identity for the college, with louvres providing shading against unwanted solar gain.
